🌱 Introduction

In a fast-scrolling world, attention is fleeting.

For the InstaGRAND campaign with KIIS1065’s Jonesy & Amanda, I set out to create a series of short-form animations that didn’t just grab attention, but held it long enough to tell a story.

This project explored how motion design, pacing, and narrative can work together to create content that feels immediate, engaging, and memorable across social platforms.

🌼 Overview

InstaGRAND was a social-led campaign designed to drive listener engagement through a playful, high-energy competition format.

The goal was to translate the excitement of the show into:

  • Short-form, scroll-stopping content
  • Clear, engaging storytelling
  • Flexible assets that could work across multiple platforms

This required designing for both speed and consistency.

👀 The Challenge

How might we create a social-first campaign that feels dynamic and fun while still being clear, on-brand, and adaptable?

Key challenges included:

  • Capturing attention instantly in a crowded feed
  • Communicating the concept clearly within seconds
  • Maintaining brand consistency across rapid iterations
  • Designing assets that could scale across formats and platforms

🎬 Creative Approach

I approached the campaign as a story to be told, and the animation needing a clear beginning, middle, and end, even within a few seconds.

Storyboarding for Clarity

The animation was storyboarded to refine:

  • Pacing and rhythm
  • Visual hierarchy
  • Readability on small screens

This ensured the story landed quickly and clearly.

Motion & Design Decisions

Narrative Through Motion

Motion wasn’t just decorative, it reinforced the concept of time slipping away, a core theme of the campaign.

Typography as Storytelling

Animated type was used to communicate key messages quickly, guiding attention and reinforcing meaning.

Designed for Social Behaviour

Content was optimised for:

  • Fast scrolling
  • Muted autoplay
  • Small screen readability

Flexible Design System

Assets were created to adapt seamlessly across different formats, ensuring consistency without sacrificing creativity.

🔄 Iteration & Collaboration

Working closely with content and marketing teams, I iterated rapidly:

  • Testing different motion styles and pacing
  • Refining visuals for clarity and engagement
  • Adapting assets for multiple placements

This collaborative approach ensured the work stayed aligned with both brand and audience needs.

📈 Impact

Audience Engagement

Campaign assets achieved strong engagement across Instagram, successfully capturing attention in a competitive social space.

Storytelling

Demonstrated the ability to translate live show content into concise, story-driven motion design.

Listener Engagement

The competition format encouraged ongoing participation, keeping audiences actively engaged with the show.

Campaign Success

Contributed to broader audience growth and engagement, supporting strong performance for the station.

👩🏻‍💻 Why This Project Matters

This project sits at the intersection of UX thinking, motion design, and behavioural design.

It highlights how understanding user behaviour, especially in fast, attention-limited environments, can shape more effective, engaging content.

Even in short-form media, clarity and intention make all the difference.

⭐️ Final Thoughts

Designing for social means designing for moments.

You don’t have long, but you have just enough time to make something feel exciting, clear, and worth paying attention to.

This project reinforced that strong storytelling isn’t about length, it’s about focus.
